Port Blair, July 26: A massive rally was organized by the A&N State Cooperative Bank Ltd. today on the occasion of 14th Kargil Vijay Diwas, in memory of the great Indian Soldiers who shed their last drop of blood to protect the mother land and sacrificed their lives.

Upon the call made by the Vice Chairman of the Bank, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma hundreds of people, men, women, young and old joined the rally which started at 9:30 AM from the ITF ground and covered Junglighat, Middle Point upto Kargil Vijaya Smarak at B.Ed College. At the Vijay Smarak, floral tributes were paid to the martyrs by Vice Chairman, Managing Director, Coop. Bank and other dignitaries.

The rally later proceeded towards Cellular jail to pay floral tribute at the Smarak via Gandhi Bhavan - Aberdeen Bazar - Clock Tower.

Port Blair, July 26: The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray has requested the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration for re-engagement of Part Time Primary Teachers, Pre-Primary Ayahs and Part Time Ayahs in the Education Department, who were removed from their job after the new Recruitment Rule was put in place.

In his letter, Bishnu mentions that there are about 115 such Part Time Workers, who were not given employment since April 2012. Under the new Recruitment Rule framed by the Administration, these workers are not eligible as the minimum educational qualification is 12th Pass and Montessori/ JBT has been made compulsory.

Most of the Part Time Pre-Primary Teachers who have been removed from their services are 10th Pass. The Pre-Primary Teachers and other part time workers have rendered 5-25 years of continuous service, without any break except for the last one and a half year.

Port Blair, July 26: The National Students Union of India, a frontal organisation of Congress Party Organized a blood donation camp at Tiranga Park today under the leadership of Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma in connection with the 14th Kargil Vijay Diwas. On the occasion the PCC Chief lauded the efforts of the students who came forward to donate their blood.

Sharma said that donating blood is to save a valuable life. Among others who spoke on the occasion were Dr MK Mahato, Dy. Director Blood Safety, GBP Hospital under whose supervision the camp was organized, Smti Rantna Kanna, Chairperson, Social welfare Board, Mahinder Prasad, Councillor ward No: 7.

A total of 28 students donated their blood out of which 10 were girls. Later the PCC President distributed medicines to those volunteer girls who came forward to donate blood, but could not do, for building their health. The vote of thanks was proposed by Tanmay Mallick, President, NSUI while Rajendran welcomed the Chief Guest and others.

Port Blair, July 26: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, A&N Islands today organised a Padyatra on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. The yatra started from Cellular Jail and reached Kargil Martyrs Memorial at TGCE. The BJYM team later accompanied by the Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Shri K Paramasivam, Secretary BJYM and other leaders visited the statue of Shaheed Ramesh Singh at Shadipur, Shaheed Dilli Rao at Dairy Farm and Shahid Capt. Asheem Bhattacharya Park at Junglighat and paid tributes.

Port Blair, July 26: The Lt Governor being on official tour to New Delhi would not be present for Tuesday’s public hearing on 30th July 2013. Persons desirous to present their grievances can, however, submit the same to the Secretary to Lt Governor in Raj Niwas from 11.00 AM to 12.00 noon on this day.

Port Blair, July 26: A Delegation of DMK State Committee led by the State Organiser, Shri.A.R. Marudhavanan met the Lt. Governor, Hon’ble A.K.Singh at Raj Niwas today at 11.30 a.m. The Lt. Governor gave a patient hearing and discussed various issues like employment generation, Internet connectivity, BPL list, Free books for students and alternate means of water source other than Dhanikari Dam. Later on the DMK Delegation paid Tributes to the Kargil Matyrs at the Kargil Memorial in the Marina Park Complex.
