Port Blair, July 15: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, has expressed deep anguish on the periodic crocodile attacks on people. He has directed Chief Secretary and the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests to take concrete steps to ensure that human lives are protected. For this, he has further directed that an action plan be drawn up and put upto him within a week and thereafter followed up urgently. 

He has expressed his anguish at the recent attack on Shri Lipus Das, who sustained grievous injuries. The Administration will take all necessary steps for his medical treatment. The Lt Governor has also conveyed his appreciation of the act of bravery shown by the villagers of Manglutan in rescuing Shri Das. The Administration will consider rewarding them appropriately.

Port Blair, July 15: The Birth anniversary of Shri Kumarsamy Kamraj was celebrated in Gandhi Bhavan today. On the occasion the PCC President, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma and other leaders of the Party paid floral tribute to  the Portrait of Kamraaj.  The Chairperson, PBMC Shri PB Murugan, Hamid Ali, Vice President PCC, RV Reddy, President DCC, were also present on the occasion among others.

Later Sharma has also garlanded the statue of Kamraj at Dairy Farm junction, which was attended by the Party leaders, PRI members  and others.

Meanwhile to mark the 111th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna K. Kamraj, a Blood Donation Camp was organized today morning at Tiranga Park by the Soundira Pandiyanar Youth Welfare Association, Port Blair. Around 27 donors took part in the camp organized in association with AIDS control Society UT Mission, Port Blair.

It is for the information of the General Public/interested Parties/Organizations that Hon’ble Mr. Justice (Retd.) Amit Talukdar, Chairperson of the A & N Commission for (Other Backward Class) OBC will be visiting these Islands from 21st July, 2013 to 2nd August, 2013 for holding public hearings and sittings of Commission.

He will be leaving for Kolkata on 3rd August, 2013.

Port Blair, July 14: In a brief function organized by the Consumers Cooperative Society on 12th July 2013, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, State Cooperative Union has handed over free connection of gas with two cylinders alongwith accessories, and stove granted to the family of Shri Bullet, a Great Andamanese tribe, presently residing at Adi Basera, Supply line, Port Blair.

Sharma in his brief address on the occasion recorded his pleasure that the Great Andamanese tribe has started to understand the importance of farming, poultry and are entering in business line for their livelihood. He also appreciated the fact that the Great Andamanese are using modern amenities and have understood that value of education for their children.

At the outset, Shri RV Reddy, Chairman, CCS welcomed the Great Andamanese family and other dignitaries. Shri Abdul Siddique, the Director and other officials of CCS were also present during the brief function.

Port Blair, July 15: There are forty six (46) Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) affiliated to the A&N State Cooperative Bank Ltd. in the South Andaman, North & Middle Andaman and Great Nicobar Island.  These PACS are functioning in these areas more than 40-50 years for the development of farmers and their socio economic upliftment without their own office and godown.

After assuming the office of Chairman, A&N SCB Ltd. Shri Bhagat Singh has taken up the matter with the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Deputy Commissioners of South Andaman and North and Middle Andaman Districts for allotment of land to these PACS enabling them to set up their office-cum-godown for revitalization of PACS and diversification of its business.

On the advice of the Deputy Commissioner, a Committee has been formed and the selection of land in South Andaman District has already been completed.

Likewise the Chairman, A&N SCB Ltd., met the Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman District on 12/7/2013 and discussed the issue. The Deputy Commissioner was very kind enough to order the allotment of land in the N & M Andaman District. Accordingly, land for all PACS in the North and Middle Andaman District has also been identified. 

In this regard, a meeting of all the President and Chairmen of all PACS functioning at North Andaman was held at Diglipur on 12/7/2013 under the Chairmanship of Shri. Bhagat, Chairman of the Bank. While addressing the delegates, the Chairman expressed his satisfaction for the cooperation and support extended by the Administration for allotment of land and requested all the PACS functionaries to take appropriate action for construction of their own office-cum-godown enabling them to diversify the business for improving the socio economic condition of the farmers at large.

Port Blair, July 14: The Centre for Experiencing Socio Culture Interaction (CESCI) an International Organisation based in Switzerland and India has conferred Shri Naresh Chander Lal with "Maja Koene Awards 2013" for his Feature Film "Gandhi The Mahatma".

The award will be given away at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial situated at Madurai in a function, to be held on 6th and 7th Nov 2013.

“This award is not of mine only but belongs to the people of Andamans, my native place as the unique culture of Andaman & Nicobar Islands which has been noticed by the world through my award winning film Gandhi The Mahatma. I am proud to be the Son of the Soil”, Lal said upon getting the news of the award.
