Port Blair, July 12: The PCC President, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt Governor to consider free vaccination of Hepatitis B Vaccine and Anti Typhoid Vaccine to the Islanders.

In his letter Sharma wrote that the dangerous killer jaundice virus Hepatitis B and typhoid deceases are very common diseases in this modern era. The Directorate of Health Services, which is giving free treatment to the Islanders should also provide free Hepatitis B Vaccine and Anti Typhoid Vaccine to all the islanders. In case it is not possible for the time being to bring all the islanders for such costly vaccinations then these vaccines may be allowed at free of cost to the widowed, handicapped, elderly person and BPL categories.

As the first three categories are depending on pension of Rs. 2000/- per month, which is not sufficient in these hard days, forcing them to pay for the vaccines is an extra burden on them.

To save the valuable lives of all these categories who are very poor, Sharma has requested to consider free vaccination as a welfare measure. He said that if his request is considered, the DHS may publish the dates for such vaccination in the media for the information of the islanders.
