Port Blair, July 5: In his letter to the Principal Secretary (Education), the Member of Parliament Shri Bishnu Pada Ray has requested that free books be provided to all students irrespective of the category they belong to.

The MP said that during his visit to Campbell Bay, South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman in the month of June 2013, students as well as parents have complaint that free books are being provided only to BPL students of Class IX to XII, which is prejudiced.   

Bishnu has thus requested the Principal Secretary to look into the matter and make arrangements to supply free books at the earliest to all students irrespective of the category they belong to in order to continue their studies without any hindrance.

Port Blair, July 4: Dr. Kusum Kunwar, MBBS, DGO, who held the charge of Medical Superintendent, GB Pant Hospital and retired from the Directorate of Health Services after rendering 33 years of service has joined Chakraborty Hospital today. Dr. Kunwar has joined the hospital as a full time Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist.

In a communication, Dr. Sudip Chakraborty said, “They say every start up needs a mentor, we are glad, a young team of doctors has finally found one”.

“We the staff of Chakraborty Multi Specialty Hospital, Dollygunj, Port Blair are indeed honored to have Dr. Kusum Kunwar, MBBS, DGO, with an enormous body of work experience agreeing to join us as a full time consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist”. 

“For sure her more than 33 years of dedicated service and unflinching work ethic will guide and nudge us to do better quality work here. The whole unit of Chakraborty Multi Specialty Hospital welcomes her”, said Sudip.

On the occasion of her joining, Dr. Omkar Singh, eminent physician from GB Pant Hospital cut the red tape and offered his best wishes to Dr. Kusum Kunwar in her endeavor.

Port Blair, July 5: The requests made by the PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma to Lt Governor and the concerned Ministry for enhancement of NIT engineering seats for the students of A&N Islands has been considered. Accordingly this year the status of NIT engineering seats earmarked for the students of A&N Islands in CSAB 2013, 47 engineering seats in 9 branches have been earmarked for the students of AN Islands whereas  in 2012 the status of NIT seats earmarked for the students of A&N Islands in AIEEE 2012 was only 24.

Sharma has thus recorded his gratitude to the Lt Governor and the concerned Ministry for the consideration.

Port Blair, July 5: A religious ritual is being organized by the Pilgrims of Andamans who has returned from the Char Dham Yatra to pay homage to the departed souls who had lost their lives in Uttarakhand due to Natural Disaster and for the people who are missing and are struggling for their lives. Port Blair, July 4: The Congress Party has recorded its sincere gratitude to the Lt Governor the Lt Gen. (Retd) Bhopinder Singh for overall socio-economic and infrastructure development of the islands to bring upliftment of the people residing in these islands. The notable sphere of his activities are uncountable, said a communication from Gandhi Bhawan.

Spelling out the developments that took place in the islands, the Pradesh Congress Party communiqué narrated that he  is he, who was the main instrumental  to help the Tsunami victims after taking over his charges here in 2006 under Rajiv Gandhi Relief and Rehabilitation scheme, has increased in the pension amount of widowed, handicapped and elderly person, removed the buffer zone area for the benefit of the people of these islands, given tireless efforts to get rid of ATR problems, established Fish landing Centers, introduced fishermen friendly schemes, opened many health centere besides introducing telemedicine facilities, introducing optic fibre cable between Chennai and Singapore, which will connect these islands giving fillip to IT sector in the coming days,  waived exorbitant ferry service charges for the welfare of the poor commuters, opened evening shift of JNRM, opened Graduation courses in Engineering in BRAIT, enhanced the stipend of the lecturers, introduced many new graduate and post graduate courses in colleges, tackled the age old water crises  by raising  the height of  Dhanikari dam, encouraged the sports personalities, opened grounds for the sportsmen.

Port Blair, July 4:  The Punjabi Settlers of Great Nicobar Islands Settled in 1969 under the rehabilitation of govt. of India. The Tsunami waves hit the Great Nicobar areas and badly destroyed, uprooted each and every families. Taking into view such tragic devastation the then Punjab Govt. and Shromani Parbandhak Committee, Amritsar helped the Victims and provided 1% MBBS seats in Punjab in “Baba Farid University Medical Health and Science, Faridcot”

However, like others years, students of Great Nicobar area proceeded to Punjab for the application of MBBS, BDS seat in said University. But when prospectus was received for the year 2013-14, it is found that 1% of MBBS Tsunami Quota is not available.  Shocked to notice the facts, the concerned beneficiaries contacted the Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, said a communication from the MP Bhawan.

“The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray without any loss of time took the cognizance and wrote letters to Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab, Shri Prakash Singh Badal and also telephonically contacted with the relevant officials. His relentless efforts brought the fruits when Punjab Govt. agreed and released the 1% MBBS seats to the Great Nicobar Punjabi settlers student”, adds the communication.

In the Dharna issues relating to Early settlement of ATI labours payment, Allotment of alternate land against submerged lands to Tsunami victimized farmers, Positioning of Specialists Doctors and permanent CMO for CHC at Bambooflat, Immediate resume of lease land at Bambooflat Jetty, Allotment of parking area for all vehicles, Allotment of work- shed to Tsunami Victimized  shop owners of Bambooflat, Providing E-ticketing counter for inter islands and mainland vessels, Construction of fish landing jetty and providing of ice plant for fishermen  at Hopetown, Providing new pipe line in place of old pipe line at  Bambooflat, Shore Point, Hope Town and Steward Gunj, Immediate construction of Panchayat Bhavan at Bambooflat shore point, Repair and maintenance of all village roads, Immediate allotment of Burial  ground for Christian Community at Bamboofalt area and De-silting of Bambooflat Dam were highlighted by Sharma.

Sharma has also placed the issues before the A&N Administration for immediate solutions of the long pending demands of the populace of the area.
