Port Blair, June 23: The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt Governor to consider additional convoy on the Andaman Trunk Road. In his letter Sharma stated that while he was on tour to North and Middle Andaman, this was brought to his knowledge by the people of the areas that many times, the passengers travelling by State and private buses from Diglipur, Billiground, Rangat and Mayabunder for Port Blair are stranded at Baratang due to sudden break down of the buses they travel. Such break down needs much time to get the faults repaired and many times the passengers miss the last convoy and become helpless to find a suitable place for night stay.

The elderly person, sick person, females and children become restless with such unpredicted events. Acute problem arises to those passengers who have to proceed to mainland by Air in the next morning. Taking care of such genuine problems of the passengers, Sharma has requested the Lt Governor to consider enforcing his special powers to allow one additional convoy for such faulty buses on the day of occurrence of mishap.

Port Blair, June 23: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has demanded  immediate publication of the result of  written examination conducted by the Administration with the help of  Staff Selection Commission for  recruitment to the  Group C posts of  Peon, Chowkidar, Mazdoors, Computer Attendants, etc.

In a letter sent to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Shri D. Ayyappan, General Secretary of the Association said that a grave situation prevails in some of the departments under the Administration due to non-filling up of these Group C posts. The Association stated that the A & N Administration had taken a decision to fill up these posts in a centralized way by conducting a common written test for all the vacant posts in different departments under it.  Accordingly, the Administration, with the help of Staff Selection Commission, New Delhi, had conducted a written examination on 5th February, 2012.  Thousands of local youths had appeared for the said written examination. Even after a lapse of 1 ½ years, the result of the said written examination has not been declared by the authorities.

It is ironical that while thousands of unemployed youths are waiting for a job, hundreds of posts are lying vacant in different departments under the Administration.

Expressing his concern over the difficulties being faced by the poor candidates, Ayyappan said that the candidates who appeared in the said written examination are running from pillar to posts to know their position in the examination.  The Administration is keeping silent over the issue, which leads to suspicion among these candidates, the Association told the Chief Secretary.

General Secretary requested the Chief Secretary to intervene in the matter and direct the authorities concerned to ensure that the results of the above written examination is declared without any further loss of time.

Port Blair, June 23: The PCC President, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has written a letter to the Lt Governor wherein he has stated that the devastating and incessant rain and flooded river have deserted the Uttarakhand region causing serious loss of valuable lives and materials.

Such natural disaster he said, reminds us of the havoc of the tsunami of 2004. During that period the islanders were given help from all over the Country including the foreign countries, which we all should keep in record. Now this has come to our duty to help the people of Uttarakhand and accordingly Sharma has  requested the Administrator to consider good amount of financial help from the Lt Governor’s Relief to the Uttarakhand Government as a noble gesture for the helpless people of the region.

Port Blair, June 22: The Administration has decided to contribute one day’s salary of employees with their consent towards Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Uttarakhand relief. A circular has been issued today by Secretary (Personnel) requesting all Heads of Department/Office, Heads of Local Bodies and Public Sector Undertaking to deduct one day salary of officers and staff with their consent from the salary of June 2013.

It may be recalled that unprecedented damage and devastation has been caused in Uttarakhand in the recent flush flood and landslides as a result many have died and thousands of people are missing. All rescue operations are on to rescue the stranded and to provide food and medical facilities to the affected people.

It may be further recalled that when devastating Tsunami struck the islands in December 2004, a large amount of relief in kind and cash was received from different States and private bodies. The administration would send the amount so collected to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the Uttarakhand relief to extend moral and financial support to bring back normalcy as early as possible from this disaster.

Port Blair, June 21: After the news report published in Andaman Chronicle dated 14th June 2013 on a self styled dictatorship at Havelock, the illegal construction carried out by one Munjoh Resort seemed to seize.

Andaman Chronicle after speaking to the concerned Phadhan of the area and other sources had carried out the report demanding attention of the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to intervene as the concerned Revenue Officials appeared to have bend down under the irresistible offers and were in a situation of trance.

After almost a week of the report published, it was informed that the Munjoh Resort has begun with its illegal construction. Speaking to Chronicle, the Pradhan of Havelock No. 3, Shri Sanjay Samadar today said, “The construction is on in full swing at the resort. We have objected to the illegal construction but since there is no action taken by the Revenue Department, the Panchayat is helpless”.

It can be hoped that the Hon’ble Lt. Governor would intervene in the matter again and issue strict instructions to the concerned department to stop such illegal activities going on under the nose of the Administrator. Such incidences not only bring bad name to the islands but also speak about the functioning of the esteemed Administration.
