Port Blair, May 19: The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma and all party leaders have expressed their sincere gratitude to the Administrator for reducing the rent of all Andaman Guest houses from Rs. 1000/- per bed to Rs 1000/- per room consisting of two beds. Sharma has also recorded personal gratitude to the Lt Governor and the officials of his administration who always answer to his genuine requests.

Port Blair, May 19: The residents of Austin IV and Borang had called upon the PCC President, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma during his tour to Middle and North Andaman and requested to impress on the authorities to fulfil their long pending demand for a bus stand.

Accordingly Sharma after visiting the places was shocked at the pathetic condition and agreed to take forward their demand for a bus stand. He thus wrote a letter to the Deputy Commissioner, Middle and North Andaman and explained that the villages of Austin IV and Borang which are very old encroachments and allotted lands are on ATR Road under Forest cover. To reach to Bus stand people have to cross a path covered with Jungle and after reaching to their destination, these villagers have to wait for their bus either under scorching sunlit or heavy shower. Such waiting is very much painful and agonizing to everyone especially to the elderly person, womenfolk, children and ailing persons. Sharma stating the above has requested the DC to consider construction of proper bus stoppages at Austin IV and Borang as a welfare measure.

Port Blair, May 19: The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray has mourned the sad demise of Shri. K. Vellimalai F/o Shri V. Saravana Kumar, Editor, Sagar (Hindi Daily) R/o Haddo, Port Blair who passed away on 19th May 2013 at his residence (Mithu Pettai, Ramanathapuram District, Tamil Nadu). He was 70. The MP prays to the Almighty to give strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss. May his soul rest in peace.

Port Blair, May 17: An impressive ceremonial parade was organized at Police Lines at 7:30 am today to welcome the new Director General of Police, Shri Sudhir Yadav, IPS. Marching contingents comprising of Police, IRBn, Fire Service and Home Guard personnel including a women Platoon took part in the parade commanded by Shri Michael Raj, Assistant Commandant, IRBn.

An officer with vast experience in law enforcement, investigation of organized crime, intelligence gathering & surveillance and management of resources, Shri Sudhir Yadav, IPS had earlier served in A&N Police from October 2000 to October 2003 as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) and Administration. Prior to this second posting to A&N Police as DGP, Shri Sudhir Yadav held several important positions in Delhi Police such as Addl. Commissioner of Police (PM Security), Jt. CP (Special Police Unit for Women & Children), Jt. CP (Headquarters), Jt. CP (Northern Range) and Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and (Vigilance).  

In his address, the DGP appreciated the achievements made by the A&N Police in the past and recounted from his past experience of working in these islands. He exhorted all officers and personnel to exhibit hard work, dedication and professionalism in rendering better services to the people of the islands. Yadav also highlighted the importance of prevention of crimes against women, children and senior citizens. The DGP Shri Sudhir Yadav, IPS has assumed charge w.e.f.15th May 2013.

Port Blair, May 17: It is for the information of the General Public/interested parties/organisations that Hon’ble Mr. Justice (Retd.) Amit Talukdar, Chairperson of the A & N Commission for OBC will be visiting these Islands from 20th May, 2013 to 31st May, 2013 for holding public hearings and sittings of Commission. He will be leaving for Kolkata on 1st June, 2013.

Port Blair, May 17: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM today paid rich tributes to all those Great Andamanese who were killed during the Battle of Aberdeen fought on 17th May, 1859. At a solemn function held at the Battle of Aberdeen Memorial, Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex here this morning, the Lt Governor laid wreath at the memorial followed by paying of floral tributes by the Chief Secretary, Shri Anand Prakash, DGP, Shri Sudhir Yadav, senior officers of the Administration, public representatives and prominent citizens of the town. A two minutes silence was also observed to mark the occasion.

Port Blair, May 16: Master Plan for Port Blair Planning Area (PBPA) which consists of Port Blair town and 34 revenue villages has come into operation w.e.f 1st March, 2012. This was prepared under the provisions of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Town & Country Planning Regulation, 1994.

As per Sub-Section 2 & 3 of Section-11 of the Regulation, it is also essential for the departments of Administration and the Govt. of India Offices to obtain necessary Planning Permission and Approval of Building Plan from the Appropriate Authority viz. Port Blair Municipal Council, Gram Panchayats, Port Blair Planning & Development Authority before taking up any development in the Planning Area and such development shall be in accordance with the Master Plan for PBPA.
