Port Blair, May 10: On 09/05/2020, on receipt of credible information regarding manufacturing and selling of Illicit Handia at Ongi Tikery, Hut Bay. Immediately, a team comprising SI Panchu, I/c PS and PCs Md. Rafique, Budhani Uraon, Pushpa & HG/ Anand Amlon Tirkey were constituted under the leadership of Shri. Abhishek Gupta, SDPO Swaraj Dweep and conducted raid. During the search operation, huge quantities with number of utensils carrying Illicit Handia of approx. 233 Kgs were recovered from the possession of accused namely Smti. Baby W/o Tobias Tete (62) yrs R/o Kichad Nallah, Hut Bay, accordingly seizure was made on the spot and arrest was recorded after observing all codal formalities. In the past history of Little Andaman, such a big haul of Illicit Handiya has never been seized in a single raid.

The entire operation was conducted under the overall direction and supervision of Shri. Manoj C., IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District. The general public is requested to share information pertaining to any crime or other illegal activities to Police at 112, 03192-232100 & 03192-233077. The identity of the informant will be kept secret.

Port Blair, May 10: Shri. Ajoy Bairagi, State President-BJP, A & N islands, Shri. Vishal Jolly, Former State President-BJP, A & N Islands and all leaders of the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, has deeply condoled & mourned the Vishakapatnam Gas Leak Tragedy in which Eleven (11) peoples lost their lives and several got injured. The party leaders have prayed for speedy recovery of the injured persons.

The party has also deeply mourned & condoled the death of 16 persons who lost their lives in an unfortunate accident on a railway track at Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

Port Blair, May 10: The Secretary, Tribal Development Council, A&N Islands Mr. Rayhaan Pasha has requested the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to help the Tribal Students of Nicobar, stranded at Mainland India by bringing them back to the Islands. He also mentioned in his request that the stranded tribal students are facing acute financial crisis and are in hand-to-mouth.

With no money with them, it would be difficult for them even purchase the tickets and food during the course of their transportation back to their native. He therefore called upon the Lt. Governor to issue directions to the concerned department of the A&N Administration to make arrangement for free food and transportation on humanitarian grounds.

Port Blair, May 8: The Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Shri Chetan B Sanghi has told the All India Radio (AIR) in an interview that the Administration now has to plan whether to bring back the stranded islanders during the period of lockdown or after that.

According to the excerpts of the interview in AIR carried by the Administration’s mouthpiece ‘The Daily Telegrams’, “The Chief Secretary said that the Administration planned to bring the stranded islanders from mainland in view of the lockdown that was scheduled to be lifted on May 3 but considering the surge in the disease the lockdown had to be further extended for another two weeks and we now have to plan whether to bring back the stranded islanders during the period of lockdown or after that. We have collected the data of the stranded islanders which shows more than 1000 people which includes recovered medical cases, students”.

Project Expected to Complete by June/July 2020
