Port Blair, June 15: Having learnt about 48 islanders stranded at Kolkata since past three months, with no money to even avail the ship tickets, the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee, President and MP Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma immediately directed the President, Andaman & Nicobar Youth Congress, Shri. John Robert Babu to arrange for their transportation from Durgapur to Khidirpur in Kolkatta.
With the coordination of Andaman Youth Congress & IYC Kolkata it was ensured that all the 48 stranded Islanders were looked after in Kolkatta till they availed the next ship for Andaman.
John Robert Babu, Bindiya Banerjee and Andaman & Nicobar Youth Congress along with support from an NGO and IYC Kolkatta team collected the required amount to book ship tickets for all 48 stranded to Andaman along with meals for their 3 days journey from Kolkata on 8th of June 2020. IYC Kolkatta had also arranged for the snacks, dry fruits to be carried for onwards journey for a total of 103 passengers on board of MV Swaraj Dweep.
The Youth Congress team has expressed their gratitude to Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma under whose guidance Shri. John Robert Babu and team could work day and night to ensure that the 48 stranded reached home safely.
Upon arrival in the islands, the Youth Congress team also ensured tickets for their travel to different parts of the islands.
In a communication, the Youth Congress members said, “All we have to say is that it's Congress Party's virtue and its leadership under Rahul Gandhi & Sonia Gandhi along with IYC Leaders has kept us motivated during these difficult times to serve selflessly for our own people”.
