Port Blair, Oct. 15: On 14th Oct. 2012 at 0834 Hrs. a fire call was received by the Fire Headquarters stating that there was a fire in the passenger vessel MV Kalighat. Upon receiving the call, fire tenders and fire fighters were rushed to Phoenix Bay jetty where the ship was berthed.
It took around 40 minutes for the fire fighters to completely control the fire on board MV Kalighat. According to reports, the fire started from the engine room where some repair work was on. An amount of Rs. 25,000/- worth property was damaged in the fire accident. Fortunately no casualties were reported.
