Port Blair, Dec. 4: Indian Coast Guard Ship Durgabai Deshmukh alongwith INS Bangaram evacuated 128 Myanmarese nationals from LOP Narcondum on 2nd Dec. 12. On 1st Dec. at about 1800 hrs Police Control Room, reported rescue of 128 Myanmarese Nationals including 4 ladies and 9 children along with one boat by LOP Narcondum. The rescued personnel had departed Myanmar on 25th Nov. 12 for Malaysia. The boat developed technical snag on one engine enroute on 28 Nov 12. Due to limited logistics with LOP Narcondum, Police requested assistance for evacuation of rescued personnel.

On receipt of information, Indian Coast Guard Ship Durgabai Deshmukh and INS Bangaram were deployed for evacuation of rescued personnel. The ship arrived off Narcondum at about 0400 hrs on 2nd Dec. Despite rough weather conditions and heavy rains Indian Coast Guard Ship Durgabai Deshmukh under the command of Commandant Atul Joshi transferred all rescued personnel safely from Lookout Post Narcondum to ICGS Durgabai Deshmukh and INS Bangaram utilizing ships boat. All the rescued personnel were provided with First aid, Food and water onboard ships.

The ships technical team was deputed to undertake repairs and assess seaworthiness of the boat. However, boat’s hull was found to be unseaworhty with ingress of water and hence was left in custody of LOP Narcondum.

Both ships alongwith 128 Myanmarese nationals departed Narcondum at 1130 hrs on 2nd Dec 12 and reached Diglipur at 1630 hrs on the same day.

All rescued personnel were safely handed over to police at Diglipur for further formalities, a communiqué received from Coast Guard Regional Headquarters, Andaman and Nicobar.
