Port Blair, Dec. 28: A delegation of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association led by its General Secretary Shri D. Ayyappan, met the Chief Engineer, APWD today and discussed the issue relating to the construction of residential accommodation for government employees in the islands. 

It was brought to the notice of the Chief Engineer by the General Secretary that there is acute shortage of government quarters at various outstations.  It was further brought to the notice of the Chief Engineer that hundreds of employees are waiting for residential accommodation from general pool at Port Blair. The General Secretary demanded that adequate provision for construction of sufficient number of quarters of different types may be made in the 12th Five Year Plan to tide over the situation. The Chief Engineer was also requested to undertake renovation/repair of all the old quarters.  

The delegation also discussed various pending issues of the employees working in the APWD.  The Chief Engineer assured the delegation that the issues raised by the Association will be considered favourably.   

Among the members of the delegation were (1) Shri Yoganathan, Secretary, APWD Sub-Committee of the Association and Shri Vasanth Sekhar, Central Executive Committee Member of the Association.
