Port Blair, May 13: INS Utkrosh, the Naval Air Station at Port Blair, organised various events to celebrate its 34th anniversary recently. Events including Educational Visit for students and NCC cadets, Blood Donation Camp, visit to orphanage by Utkorsh family and walkathon were organised during the week long celebrations. The festivities culminated with a cultural evening at Ambedkar Auditorium, Dollygunj on 11th May 2019.

All service and civilian personnel of the Air station participated in various events with zeal. “Utkrosh” derives her name from a mighty predatory bird Sea Eagle commonly found in the Indian peninsula and Andaman Islands.

The Air Station under the Andaman and Nicobar Command, caters to flying operations of Indian Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Civil Aviation. The unit has a Dornier Squadron and a Chetak Flight and undertakes flying operations for maritime reconnaissance of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea and also provides aid to civil authorities. For its round the clock operational readiness and abreast with the latest technology in Operational, Technical, Administrative and Logistic functions, the Air Station was awarded with the Unit Citation for 2018. INS Utkrosh was commissioned on 11 May 1985.
