Calls Upon DGP Dependra Pathak to Take up the Issue on a Serious Note

Port Blair, June 11: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma met the Director General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri Dependra Pathak, IPS today and expressed serious concern of the society on easy availability of the illegal and banned drugs particularly Ganja in these islands. He stated that the worst effected section of society by this social evil are the younger generation. There are instances when the worried parents of these innocent young islanders trapped by the drugs have approached him to take up the issue with the higher authorities so that lives and future of their children are saved.

Off late we have witnessed several fatalities in the form of road accidents etc. which perhaps can also be attributed to the use of Ganja. To prevent the society from the clutches of drug abuse, Sharma requested the Director General of Police to take immediate stern step against the drug peddlers and also requested to deploy strict vigil on Medical shop to prevent selling of sedative drugs without any prescription from the registered Medical practitioners. He further requested the DGP to keep high vigil on the issue to prevent bringing drugs, especially Ganja in A&N Islands.

Acknowledging the concern of the Member of Parliament, the Director General of Police has assured to look into the matter.
