Port Blair, June 12: The Field Operations Division (FOD) of National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Port Blair in collaboration with CSC-SPV organised a one day State Level Training programme on 7th Economic Census (7th EC)  in the Conference hall of Megapode Resorts, Port Blair today. Smt Sandhya Krishnamurthy, Deputy Director General, NSSO (FOD), South Zone was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Speaking during the inaugural session, Smt Sandhya Krishnamurthy highlighted the importance of Economic Census and encouraged the participants to take the training further to the District level and sub-District level. “The stakeholders must keep the difficult terrain of the islands in mind while carrying out the census”, she added. She also called upon the participants to ensure completion of census within the given time-frame. Shri Sanjay Kumar, Joint Director Economic Census, Ministry of Statistics and Planning Implementation urged the participants to make collective effort for the successful completion of 7th Economic Census.

During the workshop, the participants received comprehensive training on concepts and definitions to be used during the census, on flow of IT App designed for 7th Economic Census, field enumeration and supervision process. The roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders were also explained to the trainers. The training sessions were followed by feedback session for better understanding and co-operation.    

About 50 participants from CSC-SPV participated in the training programme. The participants so trained will impart training at District Level/Sub-District Level. Senior Officers from NSSO (FOD), South Zone and NSSO (FOD), Port Blair were also present on the occasion.

The 7th EC is being conducted by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) in 2019. In the current Economic Census, MoSPI has partnered with CSC e-Governance Services India Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology as the implementing agency for 7th EC. In the 7th EC, an IT based digital platform for data capture, validation, report generation and dissemination will be used. The fieldwork for the 7th EC is likely to commence by the end of June 2019 or next month. The results of the exercise will be made available after verification and validation of the field work. 

Economic Census will cover all establishments including household enterprises, engaged in production or distribution of goods/services (other than for the sole purpose of own consumption) in non-farm agricultural and non-agricultural sector will be counted.
