Port Blair, July 18: The Animal Science Division, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair along with ICAR-KVK,  Port Blair jointly organized two days training programme from 15-16 July, 2019 under AICRP Pig on "Balanced feeding for improving Pig productivity and cultivation of fodder to increase livestock performance" concluded yesterday at  Anganwadi Hall, Ferrargunj. A total of 18 women participants were participated in the training programme. On the opening day Dr. M.S. Kundu Course Director,  in his inauguration address emphasised the importance pig farming and women in society in present arena. Dr. B. Rakesh described the participants with general use of  legume fodder for pig feeing production and Ms. R.P. Deepitha narrated  use of trash fish for pigs. The deliberation of Dr. N.C. Chaudhary was on poultry feeding and management, while Dr. Z. George described importance of pig reproduction in the island scenario.  On the concluding day, the session started with the address of Dr. S.K. Ravi on reproduction management of sow and Dr. P. Perumal addressed Cattle management in islands on demands of participants. Dr. P.A. Bala, Senior Scientist, elucidated the importance of adolescence nutrition, role of women in society and animal husbandry in the island ecosystem. Just before concluding the programme, Dr. M.S. Kundu committed his support and cooperation in entrepreneurship development among the interested participants in pig farming and distributed the participants with Sorghum and guinea grass seeds and Hybrid-Napier stalks for cultivation as fodder for animals. The programme was organised under supervision of Dr. B. Gangaiah, I/c Director of the Institute.
