Port Blair, Aug 16: Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament and President, Pradesh Congress Committee, Andaman & Nicobar Islands hoisted National Flag at Gandhi Bhavan followed by National Anthem to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of our magnificent Independence Day on 15th August, 2019 at 7.45 AM which was attended by a large number of Party leaders, PRI members, members of frontal organizations of the Party and general public.

In his address, Sharma expressed that it is because of prolonged struggle and sacrifices made by the freedom fighters we are blessed to live in free and independent India. On the occasion of the Independence Day the MP also hoisted the national flag at several other location and Institutions.   

Meanwhile Raksha Bandhan was also celebrated at Gandhi Bhavan on the same day, in which the members of Mahila congress tied the sacred thread to propagate the concept of universal brotherhood amongst all fellow companions.

The A&N Youth Congress Committee lead by its President Shri John Robert Babu celebrated the auspicious occasion of Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan by distributing school bags and shoes to every girl resident of the Pranab Kanya Sangh. On this occasion the resident of Pranab Kenya Sangh tied the Rakhi to the Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, Senior leaders of Congress Party, members of Youth Congress Committee, NSUI and others.

Miss Mamtha Nerlige, National Secretary, National Student Union of India and Incharge Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mrs Ratna Kannan and Mrs Malati Mondal were also present.

Sharma to mark the occasion expressed his commitment towards the socio economic upliftment and empowerment of the female gender and assured to provide all possible help in this regard. In the evening the MP attended a cultural programme staged by the inmates of Seva Niketan, Dairy Farm along with Miss Mamtha Nerlige and members of NSUI and Youth Congress. He also interacted with the inmates of Seva Niketan and enquired about their field of interest and future aspirations. He assured the management of the Seva Niketan for organizing a carrier guidance programme by involving professionals which will help the inmates to set proper target in their life at their early stage of schooling. The function ended with distribution of sweets by the NSUI, AN Islands.
