Port Blair, Aug 18: Humane Touch in association with Directorate of Education has initiated an awareness campaign on alcoholism and drug abuse in educational institutions based in Ferrargunj Tehsil.

Drug related issues have reached an alarming rate in the last few years in our islands gripping its clutches among youth and students.

Drug related crimes are reported in the media frequently. These drugs eventually end up in the hands of school children which is dangerous.To curb this menace, Humane Touch initiated this campaign.

In the initial phase, Humane Touch organised an awareness camp at GSSS Wimberlygunj.

The Principal, GSSS W Gunj presided as chief guest on this occasion and highlighted the need for such awareness programmes among the students community on regular intervals.

Dr.Bindu Rajesh, Medical Officer PHC WimberlyGunjbriefed  the students about the ill effects and measures to keep away from drug addiction and how  to deal with such situations in the schools as well as society.

PK Moosa, Executive Member, Humane Touch also interacted with the students and dwelled upon  important aspects of drug addiction.

Altogether 150 students participated. 

Earlier, Shri. A. Abdul Aziz welcomed the gathering and shed light on various activities conducted by the organisation. He also highlighted the burning issue of drug abuse. The programme  concluded with vote of thanks proposed by P K Moosa, Executive Member, Humane Touch.
