Port Blair, Sept. 13: To pay homage to war heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty, 12th Battalion of the Jat Regiment observed its 31st Martyrs Day at Brichgunj, Port Blair today. A wreath laying ceremony was conducted on the occasion which was followed by observance of two minutes’ silence. The unit gathered at ‘Sarva Dharma Sthal’ and offered prayers in a befitting ceremony.   

 

On 13th September 1988, the Battalion had lost two of its officers and four other ranks in an operation against LTTE in Sri Lanka. To commemorate the valiants, this Battalion observes 13th September every year as Martyrs’ Day. As part of service traditions of the Indian Armed Forces, units of the Indian Army commemorate the supreme sacrifice of their martyrs by celebrating Martyr’s Day. Since it’s rising on 06th February 1970 the Battalion has had the honour of participating in all the operations undertaken by the Indian Army.
