Port Blair, Oct. 21: To strengthen the research in anthropology and among the tribes of Andaman, a two days National Seminar on "Prospects of Anthropological Research among the tribes of Andaman and Nicobar Islands" is was organised by Anthropological Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar regional centre, Port Blair from 17th to 18th October 2019 at the auditorium of ANRC Centre.

The inaugural session was graced by the Chief Guest, Shri. Sudipta Kumar De, Secretary (Law), A&N Administration, Guest of Honour, Dr. Satyabrata Chakrabarti, General Secretary, Asiatic Society, Kolkata, Special Invitee, Prof. Vijay S. Sahaya, Professor (Emeritus), Department of Anthropology, Ranchi University, Dr. Umesh Kumar, Head of Office, Anthropological Survey of India, Kolkata and Dr. Nilanjan Khatua, Head of Office, ANRC, Port Blair.

The introductory speech was delivered by Dr. Umesh Kumar, and addressing notes were delivered by Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Special invitee respectively. The Seminar concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Nilanjan Khatua, Head of Office, ANRC.

The day one technical session was chaired by Dr. Satyabrata Chakrabarti, and papers were presented by Dr. B.V. Ravi Prasad, Assistant Anthropologist (Retd.), AnSI, Mysore on the topic of "Status of Anthropological studies among Tribes of Andaman and Nicobar Islands" and by Prof. Vijay S. Sahay, Professor (Emeritus), Department of Anthropology, Ranchi University, on “Nicobar Archipelago revisited in 21st century with special reference to the Chowra Islands’’. 

Providing a forum for the discussion the technical session was created a major interface between Anthropologists and other researchers, regarding the tribes of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The status, changing relationship and the significant role of anthropological research among the tribes were critically discussed in the session. The participants from different organisations actively participated.
