Mayabunder, Oct. 22: On 18/10/2019, a joint raid was conducted by staff of CID and N & M Andaman District Police  in a highly professional and well planned way on M. V. SwarajDweep Ship birthed at Mayabunder resulting in seizure of 2.4 kgs of  illicit Ganja and arrest of  02  Drug peddlers.

Recently it had come to notice that illegal activities over sea route have increased and anti-social elements were using sea route for their activities. In order to put a check over these activities District Police of North & Middle Andaman, Central Crime Station(CCS), Special Branch, Dog Squad and IRBn personnel planned  a surprise check of the M.V SwarajDweep Ship which was scheduled to berth at Mayabunder jetty on 18/10/19. Accordingly Various teams were briefed by Shri Ravi Kumar Singh, IPS DIGP (I/c) and Shri. Vichitra Veer IPS, SP (N&M) Andaman and general directions were issued to each team. The teams with the help of local Police and senior Police officers conducted joint operation and rushed to the ship by interceptor boats and Gemini boats of Police and Forest department and escorted the ship from the two sidesupto the anchoring point. The luggage as well as passengers that disembarked from the ship were checked and frisked by the Police teams thoroughly. During checking it was noticed that 02 Passengers of Mayabunder did not disembark there and were moving suspiciously. The team searched the ship and during the search operation one of the team noticed that illegal narcotics substance (Ganja) was concealed in a tyre tube which belonged to these suspicious persons. On checking it was found that 2.4 Kgs ganja was concealed in the vacant space of the tyre tube. Police team promptly apprehended the accused T. K. Zainuddin R/o BathuBasti and S. K. Hasibul R/o Kolkatta under the relevant sections i.e 20(b) (ii) B of Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 and a case has been registered at PS Mayabunder against them and were taken into Police remand to know about the further links of the case.

The teams comprised of DySP Diglipur, Shri Hukma Ram, DANIPS and supporting staff, Inspr. Mahesh Yadav, SHO, PS CCS and supporting staff of CCS and CID branch, with 02 Sniffer dogs and handlers, Inspr. K. S Tiwari SHO PS Mayabunder and supporting staff of N& M Andaman. 

The Andaman & Nicobar Police is taking all possible steps in making these islands free from anti-social activity and keeping strict vigil over gamblers, smuggling and proliferation of narcotics substances in these Islands. The identity of informer will be kept secret.
