Port Blair, Jan 22: TheDirector General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Shri. Dependra Pathak visited Diglipur on 20th January 2020 for the Police Week celebrations. He attended various programmes during this visit.

The DGP inaugurated the extension counter of the CPS Canteen for the Diglipur. He also interacted with the police families of Diglipur area and held a Sampark Sabha with the police staff, who had gathered from all the police stations of the district.

In the afternoon, final match of the Volleyball tournament, organized by Diglipur Police Station, was held in his presence. A cultural programme was organized by police in the stadium during the evening wherein the DGP/A&NI was the chief guest. Apart from all the senior police officers of the N&MA district, DC/N&MA, AC/ Diglipur, DFO/Diglipur, all HoDs, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, officers from the Coast Guard, Command and INS Kohassa, PRIs were all present.

In the address, SP(D) N&MA welcomed all present and also made the attendees aware of the efforts being made by the district police, especially against Ganja. He further emphasized on the need of creating awareness about the ill-effects of drugs and reiterated the resolve of district police in eradicating this menace by working with the general public.

Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad and DC/N&MA also appreciated the efforts of police in this field.

The DGP in his address, talked about the multi-pronged approach of A&N Police, which involves strict legal action against the criminals and reaching out the youth through programmes like YUVA to channelize their energy in positive way.

Prize distribution ceremony for the Volley ball tournament was also held and gifts were given to the participants of the cultural programmes. A Badakhana (dinner) was organized at PS Diglipur, which was attended by the staff of all the police stations and units of N&MA District. DGP/ANI, DC/N&MA, DFO/Diglipur, AC/Diglipur also attended the programme, alongwith SP(D)N&MA and all senior police officers of the district.

On the morning of 21st a “Road Safety Run” was organized by N&MA district police in association with district administration. It was flagged off by DGP from the helipad and concluded at the Netaji Stadium. Over 150 boys and girls participated in the run.

In the address during the prize distribution ceremony, DGP appreciated the enthusiasm of the young boys and girls and said that they should work as Samaritans of police to make sure that the elders in their family follow the traffic rules. The officials of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Diglipur were also appreciated by the DGP for their efforts in involving the young generation in outdoor activities. 

“Road Safety Walk” was also organized by police personnel to create awareness about traffic rules and road safety in general public.
