Port Blair, Feb 17: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is mandated under CPCR Act, 2005 to ensure that the rights of Children are protected. For a meaningful fulfillment of its roles and responsibilities in the best interest of the children, A&N UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights (UTCPCR) has been regularly focusing on specific issues that are directly or indirectly related to child rights such as regular inspection and monitoring of Child Care Institutions, Child Labour, Right to Education for All etc.

In this context UTCPCR team with the Chairperson Taranga Kumar Dhali and Members Mrs. Neeta Agrawal & Mrs. Sampa Banerjee conducted inspection of Child Care Institutions namely Seva Niketan, Dairy Farm, Nirmala Shisu Bhavan and Darussalem Yateemkhana, Goalghar on 11th & 12th February 2020 and interacted with the officials in duty and children living in that institutions.

The inspection was conducted with reference to specific criteria like Physical Infrastructure, Legal Status, Quality of Staff, Child Care Facilities, Prevention & Protection of Children from all kind of abuses (including emotional, sexual & physical ), Health Care and Medical facilities, Education, Adherence to Juvenile Justice (Act & Rule) 2015 etc. While most of the criteria were found to be satisfactory, the institutions have been given direction regarding the areas which need improvement. The next phase of Child Care Institutions Inspection by UTCPCR will be continued during this week.
