Port Blair, Feb 17: The Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) is maintaining 74.00KM of road stretches under its jurisdiction of 24 wards. In order to facilitate better road facility, PBMC has taken initiative to resurface/revamp the existing damaged road under CRF Scheme, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Government of India for which an amount of Rs. 3342.95 Lakhs has been sanctioned for resurfacing/widening of the existing road for a length of 38.79 KM.

The PBMC has already completed 9.50 KM of resurfacing of road in different wards using waste plastic ranging from 8% to 10% content of Bitumen wherein 7.60 MT of waste plastic has been used for resurfacing of 9.50KM road stretches. 

At present the resurfacing of road work is being carried out in Ward No. 2,6,9,10,16,17,22,23 and 24 for length of 19.53km and work is under progress at different stages wherein an 15.62 MT quantum of waste plastic of 8 to 10% of content of Bitumen will be used in resurfacing 14.35 KM stretch of roads and remaining 9.67 KM of resurfacing of roads in other Wards will be completed before onset of monsoon.
