Member of Parliament Raises Genuine Concerns with Lt. Governor

Port Blair, Feb 20:  The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma was approached by a group of unemployed youths whose names are in the panel of 185 wait listed candidates prepared and published by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration on 2nd March 2019  for the post of Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) for placing their cases before the appropriate authorities so that they may get a job in place of those selected candidates who did not report for their duties.

Accordingly the Member of Parliament has requested the Hon’ble Lt Governor, AN Islands stating that in order to fill up 1109 vacancies of Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) lying with various departments, the A&N Administration conducted a common recruitment drive in view of the individual department not able to fill up their respective vacancies for over a long period.  Accordingly, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration initiated the recruitment process vide its notification dated 14th April 2017 inviting applications for filling up of 1109 Multi Tasking Staff. After conducting written examination and skill test, the list of selected candidates numbering 1109 was published on 2nd March 2019 along with a panel of 185 wait listed candidates.

About 85 candidates out of 1109 selected candidates who were offered appointment in various departments have not yet reported for joining duty in their respective places of posting. Whereas as per norms, such posts need to be filled up from amongst 185 waitlisted candidates in the order of merit prescribed in the waiting list.

The MP has brought to the notice of the Lt Governor that the recruitment process for filling up of 1109 vacant posts of MTS has consumed nearly two years and in the event of waiting list losing its validity on 2nd March 2020, fresh recruitment will not only consume considerable time but also cause heavy expenditure on the govt. exchequer.  Also many of the wait listed candidates may lose opportunity for government employment owing to over age in the event of conducting of fresh recruitment drive.

The Member of Parliament has thus requested to consider giving appointment to the wait listed candidates before the expiry of validity of the waiting list panel.
