Port Blair, Feb 21: The Department of Home Science, JNRM, in association with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India is organising a Three-day State level Workshop on Gender Budgeting (Second Batch) for the Government officials. The training commenced on 20th February 2020 in Seminar Room, JNRM.

Inaugurating the training, the Chief Guest Dr. KM. Annamalai, Chancellor, Gandhigram Rural Institute-DTBU, MHRD, Govt. of India congratulated the Department of Home Science for organising this programme and bringing participants from various government departments under one roof. The judicial system and constitutional system are striving hard to provide various opportunities to weed out inequality of women. In this three days training programme along with lecture model, role play and pilot study should also be included and the outcome of this will certainly yield result. The advantage of small place like Andaman and Nicobar Islands with different language is the benefit for doing pilot study here on gender budgeting and the evolved model from success study could be applied elsewhere  in India, he opined. Dr. KM. Annamalai has also highlighted various Central Government schemes like Sukanya Samridhi Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana and Mahila Sakthi Kendra etc.,

The Guest of Honour Shri. P. Naveen Kumar IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests, A&N Administration spoke in detail about various developmental programmes for women in India in general and specifically Forest Department of Andaman & Nicobar Administration. The Joint Forest Management (JFM) and Participatory Management is the best model for gender development and budgeting. The women SHG members are the primary stakeholders in spreading the awareness on Gender Budgeting. As on experimental basis the departments are training women as messenger for empowerment and in turn they are disseminating to larger population for the societal development. Dr.Naveen Kumar has also spoke on Gender Parity, Gender Development Index and women rights.

Dr. J.S. Manhas, Principal, JNRM spoke on the empowerment of women and its relevance to the present society. He highlighted the aspects pertinent to the transition women from development to empowerment and quoted the historical perspective of women in budgeting.  

Dr. K. Venkatesan, HOD, Home Science and Convener of this programme spoke on the various initiatives taken for the upliftment women by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India.  Earlier Smt.Nitika Garhia, Resource Person, Department of Home Science welcomed the gathering and Dr. Rekha Kumari, Resource Person, Department of Home Science proposed vote of thanks.
