Port Blair, Feb 23: The Veterinary Dispensary, Elephant Point, a unit of Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services in association with ATMA organized Two days training programme on “Goatery – A strong option for Livelihood” at Gram Panchayat Mithakhari w.e.f. 20/02/2020. Shri.Mohd.Safiq, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Mithakhari was the Chief Guest in inaugural session, who narrated importance of Goatery as profitable enterprise and mentioned that it is one of important venture available for livelihood. He also recalled name of some of the successful Goat farmers of the area and urged unemployed youths to start  Goatery for livelihood.

Dr. Subhash B. Palve, Senior Veterinary Officer, VD, Elephant Point explained in details about present scenario of Goat farming, its importance and overall management including feeding, management etc. and housing specially low cost raised shelter suitable to our Islands environmental conditions. 

Dr. S.K. Choubey, Senior Veterinary Officer, Port Mout stated about day to day general management, disease conditions found in our Islands, their prevention and control measures. A practical demonstration also conducted on last day in field of Shri. Chandan Biswas where handling of Goats, steps for drenching medicine, vaccination etc. shown. It is also demonstrated how to prepare Azolla plot, plant and raise fodder grasses in limited area for ensuring feed for Goats. Smti.Sitarabai, BTM, ATMA also attended the programme on last day.
