Port Blair, Feb 23: The Department of Home Science, JNRM, in association with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India organised Three-day State level Workshop on Gender Budgeting for the Government officials (First Batch). The valedictory function for the workshop was held on 22nd February 2020 in seminar room, JNRM in which Ms. Sandhya Swamy, IPS, SDPO (South Andaman District), A & N Police graced the occasion as Chief Guest.  

Addressing the gathering Sandhya Swamy congratulated the efforts taken by the faculty members and said this topic of deliberation is close to her heart since its something related to women and their development. The participants should come forward to educate the women for availing their rights.  The contributions made by women for the development of society are inevitable. The A & N Police has always in forefront to safeguard of the women of these islands, she added.

The Guest of Honour Dr. Sithara Balan.V, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, Govt. College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala spoke on Gender in Development in various avenues. Learning is a continuous process and this three days training certainly will pave the way for the empowerment of women through Gender Budgeting, she opined. She further said that the Gender Budgeting is a vibrant tool for removing inequality in all spheres of life. 

Dr. J.S. Manhas, Principal, JNRM spoke on the women’s development and their continuous efforts for societal development. In our customs women are given due care and recognition and that need to be penetrated all levels like education and employment, he said.

Dr.K.Venkatesan, HOD, Home Science and Convener of this programme requested the participants to take this message and spread to others to for policy level advisory. He has also asked them to be a brand ambassador for Gender Budgeting Programme.

Dr. S. Jayakumar, Principal, ANCOL spoke on the role of women in education and their contribution to the society. Dr. K. Rajmohan, Associate Professor and HoD, Dept of Tamil, spoke on the importance budgeting with special reference to women.  Ms. Binku Mondal, Resource Person, Department of Home Science presented the entire report of the three days programme.

Dr. B.A. Jerard, Director. ICAR-CIARI interacted with the participants on Agriculture and Gender. Dr. Sithara Balan.V handled sessions on Gender Mainstreaming and Budgeting-Women Empowerment Psychological Perspective and Gender Equality through Case study / Experience Sharing.

Dr. S. Ganesan, Regional Director (IGNOU) presented the Gender Development and the courses of IGNOU for women empowerment. Dr.Rekha Kumari, Resource Person, Dept. of Home Science, JNRM delivered a lecture on Gender Budgeting Tools. Ms.NitikaGarhia, Resource Person, Dept. of Home Science, JNRM spoke on Drugs and its affects on Women. Smt.NidhiShekhawat Assistant Professor of Home Science handled the session on Basics of Gender Budgeting and its implementation at various levels of Government and Non Government Organisation. 

Earlier Dr. Rekha Kumari, Resource Person, welcomed the gathering and Smt. Nidhi Shekhawat Assistant Professor of Home Science and Co-Convener of the programme proposed vote of thanks. Smt. Nitika Garhia, Resource Person, Department of Home Science moderated the programme. 

Altogether 50 participants from BSNL, NABARD, DFO (South Andaman), DCF (Wildlife), ANIIDCO, ICAR-CIARI, IGNOU, NYK, Directorate of Health Services, Industries, Animal Husbandry, RD & PRI PBMC, Yuvasakthi NGO, SURBHI NGO, NaiManzil NGO, CP.Ramasamy Environmental Education Centre participated in the training.
