Port Blair, July 26: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, led the Islanders in paying rich tributes to the Kargil War Martyrs at a solemn function organized at the Kargil War Martyrs Memorial in the premises of Tagore Govt. College of Education (TGCE), Port Blair here this morning.

The Kargil Vijay Diwas is being observed across the country to commemorate “Operation Vijay” against Pakistani intruders and in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil War of 1999.

Later, interacting with the gathering, the Lt Governor informed them about the bravery and supreme sacrifices made by the officers and soldiers of Indian Armed Forces to attain victory in the Kargil war.

He urged the students, who were present there to draw inspiration from the heroic acts of our valiant soldiers and work for the cause of the motherland. 

The Member of Parliament, Commander-in-Chief, ANC, Chief Secretary, senior officers of the Defence Services and the Civil Administration, public representatives, prominent citizens and a large gathering of students were present on the occasion.

A photo exhibition of Kargil War was also displayed on the occasion.
