Port Blair, August 8: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh visited Baratang and Kadamtala on August 7, 2013 where he interacted with the people and discussed their problems at Kadamtala Guest House.

The LG also visited the Phooltala field camp site of AAJVS. He took a round of the school, where he was apprised of the shortage of teachers. In this regard the Education department has been directed to appoint concerned teachers on contract till the vacancies are sanctioned.

Later, the Lt. Governor held a meeting with the public and PRI members at the Forest Club, Baratang. Various issues/ problems of the people of Baratang Island were raised in the meeting.

On the way back, he inspected the jetties at Uttra, Gandhighat, Nilambur and Middle Strait. The Lt Governor inquired about the conditions of vehicle ferries and directed that immediate steps be taken to improve facilities at these jetties.  

The Chief Secretary, Principal Conservator of Forest, DG Police and other senior officers of the Administration were present.
