Car Nicobar, Aug. 14: The Nicobar District Administration will be launching the ‘District Mission on Disaster Preparedness (DMDP)’ under the aegis of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) - Nicobar on 15th August 2013  in the Priyadarshini Hall at Tamaloo Vilage in Car Nicobar. During the launch, the Mission Logo is proposed to be unveiled by the Chairman, Tribal Council-Car Nicobar followed by a Power Point Presentation on the Mission Goals and Objectives by the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar to the line department officials and tribal leadership of Car Nicobar.

As Nicobar district falls in one of the highly vulnerable zones, a Mission Mode Approach is conceived and proposed to be launched to infuse an accelerated mode of disaster preparedness of all the stakeholders (line departments and tribal community) to any seaborne disasters and disaster induced crises.

The proposed District Mission on Disaster Preparedness is a natural outcome of the collective administrative consciousness in the district towards building the resiliency of the tribal community in coping up with any disaster or disaster induced crisis and it aims at integrating all the developmental activities undertaken by various departments by channelizing them into the sphere of Disaster Preparedness, the progress of which will also be quantitatively measured using certain Indicators.

In essence, this mission will strive to mainstream disaster preparedness into the developmental agenda of various stakeholders and inculcate disaster preparedness into the work culture of all stakeholders.  By doing so, the process of disaster preparedness will be mainstreamed into the Developmental Administration of the District.
