Port Blair, March 2: Esow of Govt. Model School Port Blair has made the Islanders feel proud by his achievement in the 67th National Cycling Championship held at Kerala recently.  Showing extra ordinary skills Esow created history by clinching  Silver medal in the 500 meters time trail of under 14 years category. This was the first ever occasion in the history of cycling that an Islander boy has won silver medal in the under 14 category. With gained confidence he joined his budding sportsman Ankit Bilong for the Scratch Race and won another silver medal for the Islands.

The Principal, Dr Dheeraj Kumar, Vice Principal Smti Hepsi Shanta and the entire family of Model School has congratulated Esow for this historic achievement. Talking to media Dr. Dheeraj Kumar said the school is proud of having a student like Esow, who has made the Islands feel proud. He said that the other students are motivated and we may get many more talented sportsmen in the near future. Sharing her views the VP Smti Hepsi Shanta said that the students of the school are showing inclination towards sports which is a very positive sign.

When contacted Esow informed that he was selected for the coaching camp 10 months back and under the able guidance of the Coach Shri S.Sen Gupta he learned the basics of the game. Talking about the experience in the National Games, he said that the star International Cyclist Deborah was very supportive and she gave valuable tips which helped him in his competitions.  Esow’s father Shri Alban is Head Constable in Fire Services, and he always encourages him for his game.

Esow aspires to continue this game to play the senior level also. 

Meanwhile the General Secretary of the A&N Cycling Association Shri Ranjit Kumar informed that National level coaching camp for the cyclists of under 14 years category will be conducted soon in main land and Esow has already been selected for that. The National coaching program is intended to prepare a pool of players for the 2020 International Championship.
