Port Blair, June 22: During the inaugural function of “Arunoday” held at Junglighat on 21st June 2016, a citizen had raised the issue of grant of compensation to next of kin of the person died due to striking of lightning at Billyground village in North and Middle Andaman District.

The Deputy Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman was also contacted over phone and he has informed that no incident of death due to lightning has been reported at Billyground. However, an incident of lightning has occurred at Prafulla Nagar, Billyground, wherein lightning had struck on the ground and during that period a person was tilling his farm and was affected by shock during the lightning. The person was provided immediate medical treatment and was discharged within two days.

The Hon’ble Lt. Governor clarified to the citizens in the function that he has reviewed the subject of release of compensation after his joining and had instructed all concerned that relief should be given within 30 days time.

Further, the A & N Administration has also come up with some norms of assistance through the scheme namely “A & N Islands Scheme for Providing Financial Assistance to Victims of Accidents” (who are not covered under the prevailing schemes of NDRF/SDRF norms approved by GOI).

No case of relief is pending in South Andaman District for more than 15 days. The District Administration is committed to provide early relief as per the norms to the affected persons.

On 9th June 2016, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman recently has accorded sanction for ex-gratia relief as detailed below: -

1. Ms. P. Naga Durga Laxmi, W/o Late Venkat Krishna -Ferrargunj         1,50,000.00

2. Shri. Hafizul Rehman, S/o Late Abdul Rehman- Aberdeen - 1,01,900.00

3. Shri. T. Jayaraman, Austinabad - 2460.00

4. Shri. T. Vasudev Rao -Bambooflat              - 3200.00

5. Shri. R. Tejeswara Rao – Bambooflat -3200.00

As of now, 40 persons have been granted an ex-gratia of `17,93,660.00 (Rupees Seventeen Lakhs Ninety Three Thousand Six Hundred Sixty only) provided under SDRF norms of GOI in the financial year 2015-2016; further 13 persons have been granted financial assistance of `32,69,300.00 (Rupees Thirty Two Lakhs Sixty Nine Thousand Three Hundred only) under the scheme “A & N Islands Scheme for Providing Financial Assistance to Victims of Accidents” (who are not covered under the prevailing schemes of NDRF/SDRF norms approved by GOI).
