Vice President Cup Football Championship- Report of Day 8
Car Nicobar, Nov. 5: In the ongoing 19th Vice President Cup Soccer Championship at Bishop John Richardson Stadium, today the last matches of the league round were played.
In the day’s first match, the team of Teressa defeated Port Blair by 8-0. Thomas of the winning team scored 4 goals alone. Teressa dominated the match right from the beginning and the Port Blair team couldn’t compete with the speed and skills of the opponents.
The second match of the day was won by Carnic - A by 19 goals against Nancowry. Football fans were disappointed by the poor performance of the losing team. Nancowry couldn’t manage to score a single goal. Roberto Baggio scored 9 goals all alone for his team.
The third match was a balanced one, and the crowd enjoyed every moment of this match. The inexperienced but talented young players of the Education XI played well against the senior footballers of the Car Nicobar -B. Russel and Albertus displayed some fine skills of football and the match ended in a draw.
The last encounter of the day between Territorial Army and Andaman Nicobar Police was the most excited one. The team of TA continued their form from their last match and played aggressive football right from the beginning. Star players of Army, Manuah and Richardson kept the ball in their control most of the time. Richardson scored 2 goals, whereas Manuah succeeded in scoring 1 goal. There was excellent coordination among the TA players, who simply outplayed the opposition in every department of the game. Shri Chamberlin Paul, Vice Chairman of the Tribal Council was the Special Guest in the last match.
The Quarter finals will be played tomorrow.
