Campbell Bay, Oct 28: The Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi accompanied by the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration Shri Anindo Mazumdar visited Campbell Bay today. On his arrival, the Lt. Governor was accorded warm welcome by the Deputy Commissioner Nicobar, Smti. Neha Bansal, SP Nicobar District, Shri Deepak Yadav, Smt. Manjula Lakra, Pramukh, Campbell Bay and other Senior Officers of local Administration.

Soon after his arrival, the Lt. Governor proceeded to APWD Guest House at Campbell Bay and was accorded an impressive guard of honour. The Lt. Governor interacted with the public, during which various issues such as availability of shipping service, BSNL connectivity, availability of doctors at PHC, up-gradation of PHC to CHC, issue of sea sand, supply of timber, allotment of permanent shelters were extensively discussed.

Regarding shipping services, the Director of Shipping Services explained the present status of ships for Campbell Bay. He assured that the ship M.V. Campbell Bay will re-start the services by the middle of November 2016. Further, he assured that one new ship namely “Coral Queen” will arrive at Port Blair in the month of January 2017 and will provide service to the southern group of Islands. He further assured that one cargo- cum- passenger boat will be stationed soon in Campbell bay which will help transport surplus vegetables and fish to other sub-divisions of the district.

Regarding the issue of poor BSNL Services at Campbell Bay, the Lt. Governor directed the Deputy Commissioner to make a detailed note on the availability of the services rendered currently by the BSNL in the district so that the matter can be taken up at the highest level.

Regarding the availability of sea sand, DFO, Nicobar Division explained that the sea sand will be available soon after getting the permission from the MoEF. Sawn timber is available at the depot of Campbell Bay and he suggested that the Pradhan may place the requirement of sawn timbers required for each Panchayat to the DFO.

The Lt. Governor also directed the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to ensure the visit of Secretary (Shipping) along with the Chief Port Administrator to solve all outstanding issues regarding shipping, port and jetty.

He also desired that the Director Sport should visit the sub division and submit a report on sports potential and infrastructure required for the same. 

The Lt. Governor and Chief Secretary interacted with the officers regarding the progress of development works and directed them to expedite the work in time bound manner. People of Campbell Bay expressed their gratitude to the Lt Governor for visiting the island and according a high priority to the issues of Campbell Bay.
