Port Blair, Dec. 19: On 19/12/2023, acting on a specific intelligence input from reliable source, a team of CID Unit consisting of Inspector S.Kannan, Addl. SHO PS CCS & Inspector Narcotics, SI Vinit Kr. Maurya, Constable Arti Kumari, Ratan Das & Vishal Kumar apprehended one person namely P.Sasi Kumar S/o Late S.Pitchai R/o Teylarabad with 20 pieces of illegal sawn padauk timber of different sizes measuring 0.640 Cbm which was kept at his premises. Padauk timbers were seized and accused person was detained after following due procedure.

Port Blair, Dec. 19: The ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Shri. TSG Bhasker has brought the attention of the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration regarding the issues being faced by the tribal people of Car Nicobar Island through a letter submitted on Tuesday. 

In the first point of his letter, Mr. Bhasker said that the tender for construction of sea wall near the Mus Jetty was floated long ago but the work has not been completed till now. The problem of soil erosion is also increasing day after day. It has come to notice that the draft around the Jetty has reduced significantly. Further, he said that the vessels which are coming to the Mus Jetty are unable to berth and un-birth because of the low draft.

Port Blair, Dec. 19: The Department of Environment & Forests, A&N Islands conducted a two-day Workshop for the Field Staff and Elephant Mahouts at Biological Park Chidiyatapu on Dec. 18 and 19.

The Workshop was inaugurated by Chief Conservator of Forests (Territorial), Dr. S. Dinesh Kannan, IFS and was conducted under the guidance of Shri A. C Tilak, Deputy Director, Biological Park, Chidiyatapu. Renowned Veterinarian & Padma Shri Awardee, Shri. K. K. Sharma, Professor, Assam Agriculture University, Guwahati also known as Elephant Man of Asia and Shri Shubham Patil, Veterinarian, Radhe Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust, Jamnagar, experienced in Elephant Management were the Resource Persons for the Workshop to impart useful information and knowledge of elephant behaviour and health issues and identification of significant changes in the gigantic polite mammal and its management and proper care.

Port Blair, Dec. 19: On 18/12/2023, at 11.30 am a small group of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Prothrapur, consisting of Rev. Fr. Rajesh Kullu SJ, the Parish Priest, Sr. Nirmala, Shri. Sanjay Meshack, the President of A&N Catholic Association, Shri. T. Sebasteen, President of Prothrapur Catholic Association and a few others visited the District Jail, Prothrapur to share the happiness and the good news of the birth of Jesus Christ to the staff & inmates of the Jail in anticipation of the Christmas festival 2023.

Port Blair, Dec. 19: The operation from New Integrated Terminal Building of Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair has commenced from 21st Aug, 2023. In order to maintain better discipline/facilities on both airside and city side, also to ensure the compliance to attached Operational Circular No 5 of 2020. The mechanism of penalties shall in put in place. The penalties are applicable in 25 type of different offences/violation. Some of these penalties e.g. smoking, spitting, parking in no parking areas etc. will be applicable to general public as well (including staff, visitors, passengers etc.). The penalty charges shall be collected by authorized Airports Authority of India employees and Authorized staff of the Vehicle Parking Management of M/s VIP Services.
