Ban Enacted Under Representation of People's Act, 1951 and Other Laws

Port Blair, April 4: In terms of the provisions contained under Section 135 C of the Representation of the People Act 1951 and read with Rule 86 of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Excise Regulation 2012, Hon’ble Lt. Governor Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands hereby orders the following days to be observed as ‘Dry Days’ throughout the Andaman and Nicobar Islands:

Port Blair, April 4: As part of the arrangements being made in connection with the forthcoming General Election-2024 for the lone Parliamentary Seat of A & N Islands Parliamentary constituency, the Office of the Returning Officer, ANIPC has started preparation and commissioning of EVMs to be used for the polling on 19th April, 2024 (Poll Day).

The commissioning of the machines are being carried out in the Central Warehouse behind ITF Ground amidst heavy security arrangements and in the presence of representatives of political parties, agents of the contesting candidates. The Engineers from ECIL have also been deputed to ensure smooth commissioning of the EVMs.

Port Blair, April 4: The A & N Islands are covered with 81% of tropical rain forests of its total geographical area and it is rich heritage of biodiversity having various eco-systems like marine, terrestrial, coastal, mangroves etc.

Extended summer season may cause forest fire as dry leafs are susceptible and works as good fuel. In past, few forest fires have caused damage of forest, wildlife and environment etc. The residents of rural areas surrounding forest have been requested to follow Do's and Don'ts of forest fire and to safeguard the eco-system of the territory.

Port Blair, April 4: As part of the General Election-2024, a voter awareness programme was organized by the SVEEP team at ANCOL here today under the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activity. Shri Wairokpam Punshiba Singh, IAS, Nodal Officer for SVEEP informed that SVEEP is the flagship program of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India.  He encouraged eligible voters to exercise their franchise in a big way during the forthcoming General Election-2024 to celebrate the right to vote. He motivated them to participate in the election process keeping aside their daily household tasks and vote for a healthy democracy on the Polling Day i.e. April 19, 2024, the day on which ANIPC going to polls in the first phase of the Lok Sabha Election-2024.
