Port Blair, Mar. 11: Shri Kiren Rijiju, Hon’ble Union Minister of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India laid the Foundation stone for the Marine Fish Rearing Facility at Atal Centre for Ocean Science and Technology for Islands (ACOSTI).  The inauguration program was presided over by Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor A&N Islands & the Vice Chairman Island Development Agency, Smt. Nandini Paliwal, IAS, Commissioner-cum- Secretary Fisheries, Dr. G. A. Ramdass, Director, NIOT, Dr. G. Dharani, Group Head, MBT-NIOT and Dr. Dilip Kumar Jha, Officer-in-Charge, ACOSTI, also participated in the inaugural ceremony.

Port Blair, Mar. 11: In a momentous occasion graced by distinguished guests, the Tribal Development Council Maritime Training Institute under skill development was inaugurated today at RGT Road by the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS as the chief guest.

The Chief Secretary commended the initiative undertaken by the Tribal Development Council, highlighting its profound impact on tribal youths and the broader community. He emphasized the importance of equipping the younger generation with skills that align with the evolving needs of the maritime industry.

Port Blair, March 11: On March 10th and 11th, 2024, special excise raids were conducted by the Central Crime Station Police Station to crack down upon the illicit sale of liquor. As a result, a police team consisting of Head Constables Sanjit Madhu, Sanjay Kujur, Constables Rajendran, Y. Srinivas Rao and Amit Kumar Singh seized 94 bottles of illegally possessed Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from the possession of five individuals namely P. Anbalagan R/o Jarodakalan, Sippighat, S. Rajendran R/o Haddo, Mohd. Safique R/o Shadipur Nepali Basti, Zakir Hussain R/o Phoenix Bay and C. Sekar R/o Shore Point, Bambooflat. All individuals were subsequently arrested. Cases under Section 32 of the Regulation III Act of 1876 have been registered at PS CCS, and investigations are ongoing.

Swaraj Dweep, March 11: In a determined effort to maintain the pristine beauty and safety of Swaraj Dweep, the Swaraj Dweep police have taken a significant step towards eradicating drug-related activities on the island by arresting one person who was in possession of Ganja.

Port Blair, Mar. 11: The National Birth Defect Awareness month is being celebrated during the March every year. In this year also the national awareness campaign is on-going as a month long activities. Various activities are being undertaken in these Islands also at the institutional and community levels.   About six percent of children are born with Birth Defects every year worldwide. The birth defects spectrum includes association with many risk factors like genetic factors, maternal conditions like diabetes and obesity, maternal age, viral infections like chicken pox, rubella, zika, environmental and drugs. Being aware of the impact of Birth Defects on our future generation, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India is giving utmost priority to strategies for their identification, prevention and management under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK). Early identification with assured linkage to care, support and treatment introduces equitable child health care approach which in the long run will reduce the burden of disability, improve health and ensure development of children born with Birth Defects.
