Port Blair, March 7: In a significant move towards enhancing road safety and improving police efficiency with community engagement, Shri. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands inaugurated an important initiative virtually today.

The initiative named as “Traffic Warden Scheme”, which aims to strengthen safety measures around schools during peak hours. To augments the Police staff, under this scheme, two volunteer teachers from each school has been identified to act as traffic wardens. These dedicated individuals have been provided with reflective traffic jackets and tasked to assist Police in monitoring & regulating traffic during school entry and exit times. By doing so, the scheme aims to ensure the safety of students and streamline traffic flow around school premises. A total of 44 schools of N&MA District have been identified as vulnerable and 88 volunteer teachers have been trained in basic traffic regulation and given on field demonstration.

Billiground, March 7: A complaint of theft was reported by the President of Mahadeva Temple, concerning the theft of approximately Rs 10,000 to 15,000 from donation boxes at Shree Ganesha and Shiva temples. A case of theft was officially registered at PS Billiground under FIR No. 16/23 dated 06/03/2024, citing violations of sections 379/457/461 of the Indian Penal Code. A special investigative team, led by the Station House Officer of PS Billiground and including Head Constable K Sandeep as the Investigating Officer, was assembled to pursue the case.

Port Blair, Mar. 7: As part of the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections-2024, a training programme for the Model Code of Conduct & Election Expenditure Monitoring team comprising of Flying Squad, Static Surveillance, Video Surveilance and Video Viewing teams was held in the conference hall of DBRAIT today.

Initiating the training, the SDM/Nodal Officer (MCC), Shri Vinayak Chamadia, IAS gave an overview of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and the role of the teams formed viz. Flying Squad, Static Surveillance, Video Surveillance and Video Viewing to check the MCC violations as soon as it comes into effect. Reminding that MCC violations are taken very seriously, he urged the participants of the training to go through the MCC manuals for better understanding of their roles and responsibility to have a better check on the MCC violations.

Port Blair, Mar. 7: To mark the occasion of 53rd National Safety Week, the Department of Labour, A&N Administration conducted an awareness programme on ‘Safety at Workplaces’ at Govt. Industrial Training Institute, Dollygunj today. Dr. Anil Agarwal, Secretary (Labour & Employment) presided over the programme as chief guest.
