Port Blair, Jan. 23: In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the election process, the Election Commission of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as ‘National Voters’ Day’. The 14th National Voters’ Day will be celebrated across the country on 25th January, 2024. This year’s theme is ‘Nothing like Voting, I Vote for Sure’.

Meanwhile, as part of pre-NVD activities, various competitions at Schools & College level are being organized, focussing on the theme. A Walkathon from National Memorial Cellular Jail to Flag Point will be organized on 25.01.2024 at 5.30 am for creating awareness among citizens about enrolment and voting.

Port Blair, Jan. 23: The general public have been informed that the 14th National Voters’ Day shall be celebrated at State, District and Booth Level throughout A&N Islands on 25th January, 2024 along with other parts of the country with the theme of ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For Sure’ in view of the upcoming General Election to Lok Sabha -2024, with the aim of maximizing enrolment and building awareness in the run up to such election in this UT also.  With the above theme, the activities shall also be taken up to target all segments including women, youths, Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), senior citizens, service voters, besides other marginalized sections of the society.

Port Blair, Jan 22: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon'ble Lt. Governor of the A&N Islands to release the already allotted funds for the arrears payment of DRMs (1/30) working in various Panchayat Samitis.

The Member of Parliament acknowledged the positive step taken by the Administration in disbursing funds for the arrears payment of DRMs (1/30) in certain Panchayat Samitis. However, there is a concern as the allocated funds have been released for DRMs (1/30) in nearly three Panchayat Samitis, while those in other Panchayat Samitis are yet to receive the funds, and the reasons behind the delay remain unknown.

Port Blair, Jan 22: Ms Meenakshi Gupta (Member and Acting Chairperson), Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), GoI, accompanied by Shri Sanjay Sharma, Advisor, TRAI, currently on visit to A&N Islands, today met the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, at Secretariat and held discussion on improving telecom connectivity in A & N Islands. Earlier, the Chairperson and Advisor visited CANI-Submarine Optical Fiber Cable Landing Station at Port Blair, Car Nicobar and Campbell Bay and inspected its operation and management.
