In another six months Islanders will be able to experience 4G in their mobiles: CGM BSNL
Port Blair, May 18: With the Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta, Circuit Bench at Port Blair leaving the decision to the appropriate authorities including the Government of India and the Administration of A&N Islands to take necessary steps to provide the undersea cable link, the CANI project now seem to be a distant dream for the islanders.
The Hon’ble Court in its Order dated 15th May 2020 stated, “This is of utmost importance, without which communication between the inhabitants of the Islands, among themselves and with the people in the main land, shall be seriously jeopardized”.
Meanwhile in an interview, the Chief General Manager, BSNL, Port Blair cleared that the project will take time.
It’s a coincidence that the Coronavirus Pandemic had struck at a time when the CANI Project was on the verge of completion. Had it not been the pandemic, the project could have started by June 2020, said the Chief General Manager, BSNL, Shri Muralikrishna in an interview on DDK Port Blair today.
The CGM answering to the queries of the viewer’s said that there is no other option apart from waiting.
Upon being asked about the difficulties being faced by the students, Muralikrishna said that the bandwidth is better in the odd hours. He suggested the students to get up a bit early to utilize the bandwidth for their studies.
The CGM also explained that the copper cables of BSNL are 10 -20 years old which is leading to poor internet connectivity.
“It’s not a question ‘IF’, it’s a question ‘When’, stated the CGM expressing that the islanders will be able to experience 4G internet facility on their mobile in six months down the line.
He also stated that the Chennai – Port Blair landing station is ready and the landing station at Swaraj Dweep is 90% accomplished. The work will commence after the pandemic is controlled.
