Port Blair, June 15: The Director General of Police, Dependra Pathak, IPS has tested positive for corona virus. Pathak in his tweet today mentioned “While we #coronawarriors continue to lead from front ensuring best public service delivery in #FightAgainstCovid19 our three officers including myself have tested +ve.”

Earlier the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Chetan B Sanghi in his tweet had mentioned about a senior police officer testing positive of corona virus. Sanghi in his tweet had mentioned, “No amount of Testing & protocols can help. Individual discipline of Masks, Handwash & Do Gaz ki Doori only can help”.

The testing positive of DG Police has now sent a shiver waves across the islanders now. The Andaman Islands had been declared as a green zone after all the earlier cases had recovered. But in a surprising move, the A&N Administration had let the passengers arriving by flight without quarantine, in spite of several cautions by the political leaders and media. The result is the rising number of cases in the islands at present. No one really knows how many islanders are moving around in public with active virus. It is also uncertain whether the A&N Administration will ever be able to control the new outbreak of corona virus pandemic in the islands.
