Port Blair, June 18: South Andaman Police once again proved their efficiency and efforts to curb down the illegal activities from the societies; the teams of District Special Police Squad, PS Aberdeen and PS Chatham arrested sixteen persons under A&N Islands Gambling Regulation, 1951 and for violation of social distancing norms on 16th June, 2020 with recovery of more than 04 Lakhs rupees.

Acting promptly on credible information that some persons are effecting some illegal activity in an under construction building near Buniyadabad Community Hall. Immediately, a raiding team was constituted by Shri. Narra Chaitanya, IPS, ASP South Andaman, comprising S.I Gaurav Banarjee, SHO PS Chatham along-with SI Manoj Lal, SI M.A. Rasheed, PSI Saorabh Kumar Pandey, ASI Surya Narayan, ASI Sanjay Yadav, PC/ M Santosh Kumar, PC/ Bipul Halder, PC/ M. Raja Rao and HG/ C. Selva Raj reached near Buniyadabad Community Hall and raided the spot and apprehended 16 persons and arrested on the charges of Gambling. A sum of Rs.4,37,610/-  and 52 Nos. Playing Cards were also recovered from the spot. Upon which a case was registered at PS Chatham against all the 16 accused persons. As they were also violating DM Act, 2005 norms issued for prevention of COVID-19, thus they were charged U/s 269/270/188 IPC r.w.s 51(b) DM Act 2005/ 4/7 of A&N Gambling Regulation 1951.

The entire operation took place under SDPO South Andaman, Shri. Narra Chaitanya, IPS and under the overall direction and supervision of Shri. Manoj C., IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District. The general public is requested to share information pertaining to any crime or other illegal activities to Police at 112, 03192-232100 & 03192-233077. The identity of the informant will be kept secret.
