Port Blair, June 18: To fight against the drug abuse and illicit trafficking every year 26th June is observed as “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” and to provide impetus to these efforts various programmes are organised to make citizens aware about the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. This year’s theme for 26th June is “Campaign against Drugs”.

In order to augment nationwide efforts, the Andaman & Nicobar Police is organising several programmes to make this year’s campaign a success. This year, however, due to ongoing Corona pandemic, it is not desirable to have mass gatherings. Therefore, the awareness campaign shall be undertaken through social media and other online platforms.

To kick start the campaign using online tools like email/whatsapp, A&N Police intends to organize a drawing/painting competition involving school students from Class VIII to XII standard on this year’s theme. Therefore, parents and teachers are requested to encourage students to actively take part in the open category of the competition. The soft copies of the entries (their drawing/painting/sketch alongwith name, class, phone number and email-id) may kindly be sent to the office Superintendent of Police (CID) by 23/06/2020, for deciding the top three winners by the committee. All the entries will be provided with a certificate of participation. Apart from prizes, selected paintings/drawings/sketches would be uploaded on social media platforms and given wide publicity to spread awareness on this issue.
