Port Blair, July 20: As a small step against COVID-19, the enthusiastic volunteers with the active support of the Directorate of Fisheries, A&N Administration conducted a sanitization and awareness drive in the premises of Fish Landing Centre, Junglighat on Saturday, 18th July 2020.The theme of the drive was ‘Revive Yourself & Stay Safe’.
The fishers were gathered in the hall of Fish Landing Centre, where they were sanitized and given triple layered masks each. Shri SK Talukdar, Assistant Director (Fisheries) on the occasion explained the importance of sanitization and disinfection activities among the fisher community and their boats to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
Awareness talks were also given by the volunteers relating to hand sanitization, hand wash techniques, method of wearing masks and maintaining social distancing in order to evade COVID-19 infection. Multicolour standees were displayed, which illustrated about hand washing and importance of wearing masks.
Similar activities will be conducted by the team in future to spread more awareness.
