Port Blair, Aug 13: The Carmel Alumni (CALM) Port Blair celebrated its foundation day on 12th August 2020. In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, it was decided by the Alumni to have a virtual celebration through Google Meet and connect as many Alumni members as possible, who have settled across the world.

The programme started at 4.30 pm with a prayer song by the Carmel Sisters led by the Patron of Carmel Alumni, Sr. Maria Monica. This was followed by the Patron and the President, CALM’s address. This is the first ever virtual meet hosted by CALM in which people from different parts of the world including Canada, Zambia, Gulf, US and Jakarta gathered on a single platform.

Among the other participants were Sr. Carmen Rose, who served in the islands in the year 1970-1976. She is 85 now and still going strong. The celebration also witnessed the participation by the past Patrons, Sr. Maria Reshma, Sr. Leela and Sr. Supreeka, who expressed their happiness on being a part of the CALM family.

Carmel Alumni was formed on 12th August 1989. Since then CALM has been involved in many social works, which includes, charity, career guidance, medical camps and many more.

For the 2020 Alumni Day celebration, the host batches were 1995 and 1982. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Shivan of 1995 batch and Smti Nandini of 1982 batch.

Carmel Alumni Day 2021 is proposed to be celebrated on 20th August, which will be hosted by the 1996 and 1981 batches.
