Port Blair, Aug 24: The Chairperson, Port Blair Municipal Council Shri. N.K. Udhaya Kumar today met Shri.Suneel Anchipaka IAS, Deputy Commissioner (SA) earlier and appraised him about the issues of closure of shops at Bathu Basthi area due to implementation of Lock Down and formation of Containment Zones. The Chairperson requested the DC to look into the matter.

Upon the request made by the Chairperson, the Deputy Commissioner (SA) on today visited the area and interacted with the officials. Necessary directions to reopen certain shops, dealing with essentials commodities were given.

The Chairperson further apprised the Deputy Commissioner (SA) about the glitches faced by the labours attached to the Construction field and Quarry sector. Due to closure of works the labour groups are in distress and panic. After a patient hearing the Deputy Commissioner assured every possible help from the Administration in every aspect.

While appreciating the efforts taken up by the Administration at the airport premises, such as conducting of rapid kit tests, the Chairperson appreciated the efforts put in by the Administration in revamping the medical facilities for restricting the spread of the pandemic. He also requested the general public to follow all directions laid by the Administration like wearing of mask, proper maintenance of social distancing as every citizen is responsible and should adhere by the laws laid by the Administration from time to time.
