Port Blair, Aug 31: The Dy. Commissioner, South Andaman, Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS along with Shri Hari Kallikkat, IAS, SDM (SA) and Shri Lakshay Singhal, IAS (P) visited Swaraj and Shaheed Dweep to oversee the status of COVID-19 management wherein the DCSA interacted with the Health Officials, Police, PRI members, Market Association and Community Representatives. During the visit the DC appealed to the PRIs and others to extend full support to mobilize community resources and supplement the efforts of health authorities.
On interaction with the PRIs and general public of Shaheed Dweep, various issues of the island were raised regarding COVID-19 preparedness, schedule of ships, facilities at Hospital, supply of seeds, pesticides & fertilizers, non-availability of cash in ATMs etc. The DCSA has assured to resolve the issues by taking up with the respective departments.
Thereafter the team visited Swaraj Dweep and interacted with the Pradhans, Pramukh, Zilla Parishad Members, Samiti Members and other PRIs. During the interaction, the PRIs and general public raised issues related to COVID-19 management and other developmental issues. The DC deliberated on the issues and requested immediate action to the concerned authorities to resolve the matters and follow-up to be done.
Apart from the above, during the visit, the team inspected PHCs of both the island and had an interaction with the medical officials. Oximeters, thermal scanners, surgical masks, N95 masks and gloves were provided at the PHCs. The DC ensured that a separate isolation ward are functional to tackle emergency situation at both the PHCs.
Revenue officials were directed to deal with the encroachments with zero tolerance and if anyone found doing encroachment, action should be taken as per law without any leniency. The DC also requested the PRI members to restart MGNREGA, PMAY, NRLM and other developmental schemes at the earliest with strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols. During the interaction with PRIs and general public at both the islands, the DC appealed to follow the two Golden Principles of Wearing Masks properly and maintaining social distancing/ do Gaz ki doori.
