Police to Actively Pursue for Maximum Punishment of 20 Years of Rigorous Imprisonment

Port Blair, Sept. 29: With the philosophy of zero tolerance against the sale of narcotics drugs in the South Andaman District, the Police team comprising PC/1905 Ashok Kr. Roy, PC/2438 Debasish Roy, PC/586 Suresh, PC/1094 T. Anil, PC/1418 Shiva Kumar and LPC/32 Priyanka Khatoon headed by SI K. Ilangovan, SHO PS Bambooflat have seized 3.30 Kgs of ‘Methamphetamine’ illicit drug from two persons. 

On 29/09/2020, credible information was received from an informer that a person namely Durga Rao is in illegally possessing some drugs at his garage near Lamba Pahad, Wimberlygunj. Immediately, a raiding team was formed which secretly rushed to the spot.

With the tireless efforts, the team succeeded to apprehend the suspected person and seized illicit drugs ‘Methamphetamine’ weighing 01 Kg and 30 grams from the possession of accused namely K. Durga Rao, S/o Late Veeran Sethy, (35)yrs, R/o Lamba Pahad, Wimberlygunj. The accused was arrested on the spot under relevant sections of law.

A case under NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered against the accused person at PS Bambooflat and during investigation, it also revealed that Shusanto Kumar Mondal, S/o Shri Niranjan Mandal (54) yrs, R/o RGT Road, Port Blair was also involved in the drug peddling. Accordingly, the team apprehended the co-accused and after search, additional 02 Kgs of illicit drugs ‘Methamphetamine’ was recovered from his possession.

As the contravention involves large commercial quantity, which leads to rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than 10 years but which may extend to 20 years, Police will extremely pursue the case for strict punishment in court of law.

The entire raid took place under the supervision of Shri Ajay Kumar Rai, DANIPS, SDPO (Bambooflat) and under the overall direction and supervision of Shri Manoj C., IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
