Port Blair, Oct. 27: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has informed the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands that total 3669 students have passed 12th class from the Government and private schools in these Islands during the academic session 2019-2020. All together 6639 students have applied for admission for their higher studies in the colleges of JNRM, ANCOL at Port Blair and MG College at Mayabunder for the academic session 2020-21. However due to acute shortage of intake of seats in JNRM & ANCOL at Port Blair and MG College at Mayabunder, these students are unable to get the admission for higher studies in these colleges.
In order to get admission of all interested students in these colleges under Right to Education, the Member of Parliament has requested the Lt. Governor to initiate necessary steps to start the 2nd shifts in JNRM & ANCOL colleges in Port Blair and MG College at Mayabunder for the academic session 2020-2021. This would not only facilitate the interested students to get admission but also create employment opportunity for the highly qualified unemployed youths in these Islands in teaching profession.
In this regard, the MP further also mentioned that previously, there were 02 shifts in JNRM College, which was discontinued after the opening of ANCOL College in the year 2014. In view of the increasing number of students opting for higher studies in these Islands, re-commencement of 2nd shifts in the colleges is felt necessary, said the MP.
