Port Blair, Jan 7: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to resolve issue regarding re-settlement/shifting package of original 47 repatriated Sri Lankan Tamil settlers family from Katchal (Tribal area) to Non-Tribal area. This has been pending with the Administration since last 25 years for which they have been continuously pressing.
It is learnt that the Administration has already initiated the process for their resettlement package but the same has not been finalized yet. The aggrieved have started agitation by sitting on relay hunger strike at Katchal w.e.f 18.11.2020. Moreover, the conditions of the rubber plantation quarters where their family residing there are in a dilapidated condition and beyond repairable.
Apart from this, the Tribal people have also been continuously demanding to vacate these families from their Tribal area in view of PAT Regulation. The MP requested the Lt. Governor to look into the matter personally for resolution of their long pending demands in order to get the relay hunger strike culminated.
